Though it may act like it, summertime doesn’t have a monopoly on lime and tequila—and our winter margarita is here to prove it. The addition of pomegranate juice adds a festive, wintry bite, while a sugared rim (swapped for the usual salt) adds a hint of sweetness with every sip.

Perfect for dinner parties or warming up on a cold evening, this drink is happy to stand in until warmer weather intervenes.

Ingredients
  • Granulated sugar (optional)
  • Lime wedge, for serving
  • 1 ½ ounces (3 tablespoons) tequila blanco
  • 1 ½ ounces (3 tablespoons) pomegranate juice
  • ½ ounce (1 tablespoon) lime juice
  • ½ ounce (1 tablespoon) simple syrup or honey simple syrup (optional)
  • Sparkling water (such as Topo Chico)
Instructions
    1.

    If making a sugar rim, pour sugar onto a small Plate. Rub rim of a Drinking Glass with lime wedge and press rim into sugar. Reserve lime wedge.

    2.

    Fill a cocktail shaker about halfway with ice cubes. Add tequila, pomegranate juice, lime juice, and simple syrup (if using). Shake vigorously until outside of shaker is very cold, 15–20 seconds.

    Fill glass with ice and strain margarita into glass. Top with sparkling water and garnish with reserved lime wedge.
